Top 10 Best Off-Road & Off-Grid Camping Trailers

If you’re looking to go off-grid, boondock in remote locations, or just want to escape from the noise and crowds that you see at the campgrounds, you may be looking for a more rugged and tough trailer to do the job. In this post, I want to cover the Top 10 Off-Road trailers in 2025!

Please note these are not in any particular order.

MDC XT19HRT OFF-GRID EXTREME

Released in late 2024, the MDC XT19HRT Off-Grid Extreme—also known as the MDC 19—is the latest flagship off-road trailer from MDCUSA. Designed specifically for adventurous couples, this rugged off-grid caravan is built to handle remote destinations for multiple days at a time. Engineered for serious off-road travel, the MDC 19 features an independent dual gas shock and coil suspension system. It’s powered by an impressive 800Ah Renogy lithium battery bank and 1225 watts of roof-mounted solar, with the option to plug in additional solar for extended stays.

Inside, you’ll find a luxurious north-to-south queen bed surrounded by ample storage above, below, and all around—perfect for keeping clothes, gear, and essentials organized. A standout feature is the spacious rear bathroom, equipped with a cassette toilet and a shower roomy enough for two. All of this is built on a heavy-duty, hot-dipped galvanized steel frame backed by a lifetime warranty—ensuring strength, durability, and peace of mind on every adventure.

MDC XT12HR OFF-GRID EXTREME

The MDC XT12HR Off-Grid Extreme is another new off-road trailer added to the MDCUSA lineup. This camper is smaller and lighter than its bigger brother the MDC 19, but still packs a powerful punch with what it offers despite its compact size. The MDC 12 offers the same rugged hot-dipped galvanized steel frame with independent dual gas shock & coil suspension so getting on a bumpy road is not a worry! Its powered by 400Ah of Renogy lithium battery and 350 watts of roof mounted solar with the option to plug in additional solar as well.

The inside has everything you need and nothing you don’t, which is why this is one of my personal favorites (I try not to show too much bias in this blog post). As you walk in, you’ll be greeted by a beautiful and functional interior with the kitchen in the rear with a 3-burner stove, and a sink with hot and cold water. In this trailer under 4,500 pounds you also get a wet bath with a shower and cassette toilet. Enjoy hot showers with the Truma AquaGo On-Demand water heater. In the front is an East-to-West Queen size bed along with a small sitting area for enjoying meals or downtime. The MDC 12 is great for adventures with a half-ton truck and also wants something smaller and more agile to navigate the trails.

MDC XT15-4E OFF-GRID EXTREME

MDC 15 in the snowy mountain of Utah.

Another incredible off-road camper in the MDCUSA line up, but this one is designed and built with the family in mind! The MDC XT15-4E is a hybrid camper which means most of the trailer is hard-wall with some pieces popping out once you are getting set up at camp. On this specific hybrid trailer, the roof pops up to make the interior tall enough to stand in, and the rear pops out to extend the main bed space. The unique thing about this specific hyrbids is the electric lift roof which saves you the hassle of having to step inside and push the roof up manually. In the front of the trailer are 2 twin bunks so you don’t have to kick the kids outside (unless you want to!) and the MDC 15 offers plenty of storage for all your family. The MDC XT15-4E Off-Grid Extreme is built on the same hot-dipped galvanized chassis and is paired with the Tough Trax independent dual gas shock & coil suspension with load range E off-road tires. The latest edition of the MDC 15 has 400Ah of Renogy lithium battery with 745 watts on the roof.

PAUSE XC22.4 (Pause X)

The Pause XC22.4—also called the Pause X—is the newest top model from Forest River’s Pause division. It’s made in the USA by a team that wants to push RV design forward. This trailer is built for off-road camping and shows what’s possible in American RVs. The Pause X is 22 feet long and can sleep up to four adults. One of its best features is the rear deck that folds down in under five minutes. It gives you more space and amazing views no matter where you camp. Next to the deck is a booth-style table that fits 4–6 people. It’s great for family games or quiet meals together. The camper uses a Garmin control panel that lets you manage lights, air suspension, and more. You also get a 4000-watt propane generator for backup power.

This camper is ready for off-grid travel. It has 1080Ah of Battle Born lithium batteries, 1000 watts of solar panels on the roof, and an extra 800 watts of solar on the side. In the middle of the camper, you’ll find the bathroom. One side has a toilet and sink, and the other has a full-size fiberglass shower. The door opens out to give more space or close off the bedroom for privacy. In the bedroom, you can choose a king-size bed or two twin beds with a nightstand in between.

There’s so much more to love about this off-road trailer. Check it out here and see why the Pause X is built for big adventures.

Pause Reboot 19.4

The Pause Reboot 19.4 is made by the same team behind the popular Pause X. It’s built on a strong, huck-riveted aluminum frame made by MORryde and rides on MORryde airbag suspension. This gives you a smooth ride off-road and makes leveling at camp easy. The Reboot 19.4 is wider than most travel trailers, which means more room inside—without needing slide-outs. You’ll be surprised by how open and roomy it feels. This camper can be powered with up to 1080Ah of Battle Born lithium batteries, 800 watts of roof-mounted solar, and 800 watts of side solar. If you want to save money, you can choose smaller battery and solar setups. The walls are built with strong aluminum framing, foam insulation, and a vapor barrier to help keep the temperature steady and prevent moisture problems.

Inside, you can choose between a queen or king bed. There’s also a booth dinette that fits up to four adults and turns into an extra bed at night. The kitchen has a 3-burner stove and a convection microwave, which you can use for baking. One of the best parts of this trailer is the large dry bathroom. It has plenty of counter space and storage. The toilet uses a black tank system, and the fiberglass shower gives you hot water thanks to the Truma AquaGo water heater.

The Pause Reboot 19.4 is a great choice for couples or small families who want a roomy, off-grid camper built for adventure.
